Your API contains 20 million customers. A client requests: GET /customers Returning all 20 million at once is impractical.

Return manageable portions. 
Customers 1–100
      ↓
next page
      ↓
Customers 101–200
Core idea: pagination bounds the amount of data transferred and processed per request.
