DHCP

Problem

You join a hotel Wi-Fi network. Your laptop needs: * an IP address, * subnet information, * default gateway, * DNS servers. You don't want to ask reception for four network settings.

Solution — DHCP

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. The device asks the network for configuration and receives it automatically. Laptop: I need configuration. DHCP: IP: 192.168.10.57 Gateway: 192.168.10.1 DNS: 192.168.10.1
Core idea: DHCP automatically configures hosts joining an IP network.
